Book Week - Day One - Storybird

Storybird is a website where you can make your own digital picture book using so amazing illustrations. Today we each came up with a theme and completed a picture plan or brainstorm about what could happen to the characters that are in the story.  Once these were completed the children were able to use the Storybird website to create a digital version of their story.

Most children found it difficult finding just the right pictures so their story is quite different from their plan, but all children were successful in making one digital storybook.

Each child has their own login so they are able to make more storybooks (even at home) or change the one they have already made. Ask your child to show you what they have made.

We are going to learn how to make a digital book, put words to a silent story, learn about Dr Seuss and Fantastic Mr Fox.
As advertised we also have Stu Duval coming in to work with all classrooms. Please pay the small fee of $4 per student as soon as possible. Only students who have paid get to go.
On Friday every person in the school is going to dress up as a book character. Put your thinking caps on, get creative and come to school in costume!

DISCO

Disco tonight ...YAY!

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs, Bugs!

Our Calendar Art is inspired by the story of James and the Giant Peach. During this term we have listened to Mrs Majurey read the story of James and the Giant Peach and then we watched the movie and talked about comparisons.
We noticed lots of differences between the book and the movie, but there were also many things that stayed the same. The photo above is of our quick brain storm.

We were going to draw the characters of the story for our Calendar Art but decided it was a bit tricky so Mrs Majurey showed us how to draw Alphabet Bugs

Your child should be able to explain how Rudi's picture was formed using letters of the alphabet. After we drew our bug in pencil we went over the lines in vivid.
Our bugs were then painted with water colour tablet paints.
The backgrounds were created using crayon and dye. We drew gardens for our bugs. When both bugs and gardens were dry we cut out our bugs and glued them on to the garden background.

Please purchase your child's Calendar Art. They make very good Christmas Presents. You can purchase calendars or diaries. Keep an eye our for the order form next week!

Spelling

I have had a wonderful time talking with parents/caregivers this week and during our conversations I have been asked about their child's spelling ability and how can they help at home.

Tutpup.com is a website that the children in Room 6 are familiar with (used originally for basic facts). There is no need to register. Here is what you do:

1. Go the website www.tutpup.com and click on spelling.
2. Start off with Easy Peasy - Turn the volume up or put on headphones

3. Once you have played a spelling race with another person from around the world you will get a list of words you get wrong - take time to practise these.

4. Then play again by clicking on the 'green Tutpup title' - see top picture
5. When you get all the words right and you win the race, move on to Simple Pimple. And even higher if you think you can.

YES you can start this week!

Comments to our Blog

It would be lovely to have families and friends make some comments on our blog. Not only is it neat to get some feedback but it also gives me and the class an indication of how often our blog is looked at.

You may like to offer some ideas of things we could include on our blog and ways we can improve it. What works and what doesn't work. If you are a google account holder you may like to become a 'follower' to our blog (we will see you on the right --->).
