Get Egging!

I have just found out that while we have the trial for Reading Eggs we have a chance of winning some things, one of which is a years subscription to Reading Eggs for a class for free! It says here the more lessons we complete the more chances we have of winning. How cool would that be?

I would love to have some feedback about how your child is enjoying the programme and how it is benefiting the homework programme. You can post it in the comment box below or email me at lindam@reremoana.school.nz.

If your child has lost their login I will be happy to email this to you also. Happy Egging!

Our Annual School Gala

School Gala - 10 March 2012
We will be making some miniature gardens and vegetable creatures which will be judged for the school gala. Very soon we will be asking the children to plan for these two tasks in their homefun. They will also need to bring to school floral items (flowers, leaves, barks etc) and fruit or vegetables for their creatures the Thursday or Friday before the gala.

Thank you

Thank you to all of the parents who took the time to come and meet me on Wednesday evening. It was a pleasure to see you and share with you some information about Room 6. Please do share what you have learned with other families you know from our class that were not able to come.

Here is a quick run through of some of the points covered on the night:

Homefun will come home on a Tuesday and returned on the next Monday

We go to the library every Monday

Could you donate... small boxes, giftwrap, cellophane, stickers, pipecleaner ice cream containers, iceblock sticks, any other crafty things for our construction days?

Being Independent...

The students of Room 6 are learning about becoming independent at school.

You can help by making sure your child can tie their own shoes, open their own packets.

Each child will benefit from having a pencil case. They will be looking after their own pens, pencils, glue sticks etc

Reading Eggs

We have subscribed to a 6 week trial to the Reading Egg programme. Feel free to have a look around and make yourself familiar. The students will all have their own login and passwords which will be given to them when the tasks are set up.

I am hoping to set these up individually so that the tasks will cater for your child's ability. I still have to do a bit of homework to do and figure out how to organise things. But the trial games are fun and interactive. Have a go!

Pencil Cases and Hats

Pencil Cases

This year the students in Room 6 will be looking after their own pens, pencils, glue sticks etc. It will be helpful if each student has a pencil case to store these items. I have given snap lock bags to those who don't, but they will only work temporarily. These items have also been named for easy return. Jovis however will probably end up in containers to share at tables as they are more difficult to name and break easily.

School Hats

It is extremely important that each child has their own school hat. The sun can burn very quickly and the hats do protect them. During Term One and Four wearing a uniform hat is compulsory.

Sun Screen

Please also ensure that your child has applied sunscreen in the morning, SPF 30+ is recommended.

One Week Down

We have managed to get through our first week! It did help that we were only at school for three days.

I have loved getting to know each and every student in Room 6. If I have not yet had a chance to meet you (the parent) please feel free to pop in and say "Hello". I am usually in and around the class between 8.30 - 9.00 each morning although after school on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Friday would be a less rushed time to see me.

This week we begin our Homefun and Home Reading. You will find a reading log in your childs' book bag which I encourage you to sign every night that you listen to your child read. This should only be around ten minutes of reading each night. We go to the library on Mondays so your child may choose to read this on Monday evenings. You may like to read some too!

Homefun will come home on Tuesday and be returned to school the following Monday morning. This enables students to use the weekend to complete tasks. This is a popular choice for busy families. You will be able to find this weeks homefun tasks here on the blog or glued into the homefun book.

Thank you to those families who are already using email to contact me. My email is lindam@reremoana.school.nz. Just a quick reminder that I am only able to receive and send emails while at school.

Very soon we will be adding more to the page about Room 6 so keep checking back for updates here.

Music! We are very lucky to have Mrs Fourie teach the Pukeko Team about music. She will be working with Room 6 on Thursday morning. During this time I will get the opportunity to work with the students 1-1 and get some assessments completed.
