Homefun for Term 4

Each child in Room 6 has been give a lanyard with their username and password for study ladder. I will be entering new tasks to this website each week.
Here are the instructions to begin:

1. Click on the 'study ladder' link above and save it into your favorites.

2. Use your new username and password to log in.3. In the tabs at the top click on ‘Rewards’ and change your avatar (Character)- You will need to choose a ‘standard avatar’ boy or girl and then change hair, nose, shirt etc to look more like you.

4. Click on ‘Home’ and it will take you to the tasks and activities you need to complete. Some of them are just reading. Some are doing activities and and there are also some worksheets to print and complete - These are brought back to school and added to your home fun folder. (Please let the teacher know if you can not print at home).

Use the green square with white arrows to scroll through the tasks - Or just click on 'Home' again for the list view.

As you finish your tasks the little smiley face will become green. This shows me and you that you have looked at the task. Don't forget to email me photos of you completing the kitchen tasks!

5. Click on the ‘Games’ tab and you will have games to complete. These are games that will help you with spelling and maths.

As you gain points you will be able to do extra things like build your cubby etc.

Have a look around the website and see all the cool things you can do.

It is still important to read every night :-)

Study Ladder Trial

During term four I will be using Study Ladder as part of the home fun programme. Each child will have their own user name and password which I will give out next Monday. I will assign tasks for each child in the classroom (these may be different for each child). I will be able to keep track of your child's movement and how they are going.

This is my first time using study ladder, but many children in the class have told me that they have used it before which is great to hear.

Please encourage your child to complete practise tasks through out the week, starting next week.

Homefun, Pens, Athletics and EOTC

Homefun begins on Tuesday 23 October. In the mean time make sure you read every night and get some basic facts practicing happening using www.tutpup.com.

Over half of Room 6 do not have black pens or pencils to complete their work. It is important that each child has their own named pens. Sadly about ten of mine have been borrowed and lost already (day one term 4). Even if you think your child has the correct items it is always a good idea to give them extras.

Athletics is scheduled for next Friday. Woohoo! I can't wait to see Room 6 and the rest of Reremoana School participate in our annual athletics event at Massey Park in Papakura. Please make sure you have handed in your child's permission slip.

We have a fun filled week coming up in week 6 for our EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom). Information for this was handed out last term along with forms for parents to fill in. Thank you to those parents who have already returned their forms and especially to those who are willing to give their time to volunteer to help us during this week.

Spelling

I have had a wonderful time talking with parents/caregivers this week and during our conversations I have been asked about their child's spelling ability and how can they help at home.

Tutpup.com is a website that the children in Room 6 are familiar with (used originally for basic facts). There is no need to register. Here is what you do:

1. Go the website www.tutpup.com and click on spelling.
2. Start off with Easy Peasy - Turn the volume up or put on headphones

3. Once you have played a spelling race with another person from around the world you will get a list of words you get wrong - take time to practise these.

4. Then play again by clicking on the 'green Tutpup title' - see top picture
5. When you get all the words right and you win the race, move on to Simple Pimple. And even higher if you think you can.

YES you can start this week!

Homefun Reminder

Homefun should not be a chore for your child. Please allow your child to complete as much as they can which is around 40 minutes - an hour a week, plus reading each night (Tue - Fri).

They will be given their work on a Tuesday to complete over 4 nights, and also the weekend if they need to. They should be handing their homefun books in every Monday morning without me having to ask more than once a day. I mark these on a Monday night so they are ready to hand out again the next day.

Please ensure that your child has a pen (preferably black) to do their writing and encourage pencil for any drawing type activities.

The brochures for brain food were OUTSTANDING! These are pinned to the wall for all to see.

I will be posting extra for fast finishers onto the blog for children to get more homefun if they would like. These will be available before the end of the term.

Our trial for Reading Eggs will be finishing on April 1st (next week). I will let you know as soon as possible if we continue our subscription, using a user pays policy. Watch this space!

Whats Going On?

Come to our Gala this Saturday. 10am until 2pm. Have a look here for more information about what will be happening on the day.

This Thursday is our craft day to create our miniature gardens and vegetable creatures. I am looking forward to seeing your end creations. Many of you had made some awesome designs in your home fun. I will be taking many photos and will add them to the blog. Gala creations will be displayed in the hall and judged on Friday. You will be able to show your families during the gala on Saturday.

I will be getting dunked at 1.15pm. Parents and children are welcome to pay a lot for the pleasure of getting me wet. ;-)

From our newsletter:

Goal Setting Conferences
Information about this year’s goal setting conferences (Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 March) was sent home with every child last week. We encourage families to get their online bookings made quickly to ensure you get a time that suits you and your family.
The web address is: www.schoolinterviews.co.nz The password is: P4PA6

This is a very valuable aspect of our year. Please book. It has also been a pleasure catching up with parents to talk learning in the morning.

One Week Down

We have managed to get through our first week! It did help that we were only at school for three days.

I have loved getting to know each and every student in Room 6. If I have not yet had a chance to meet you (the parent) please feel free to pop in and say "Hello". I am usually in and around the class between 8.30 - 9.00 each morning although after school on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Friday would be a less rushed time to see me.

This week we begin our Homefun and Home Reading. You will find a reading log in your childs' book bag which I encourage you to sign every night that you listen to your child read. This should only be around ten minutes of reading each night. We go to the library on Mondays so your child may choose to read this on Monday evenings. You may like to read some too!

Homefun will come home on Tuesday and be returned to school the following Monday morning. This enables students to use the weekend to complete tasks. This is a popular choice for busy families. You will be able to find this weeks homefun tasks here on the blog or glued into the homefun book.

Thank you to those families who are already using email to contact me. My email is lindam@reremoana.school.nz. Just a quick reminder that I am only able to receive and send emails while at school.

Very soon we will be adding more to the page about Room 6 so keep checking back for updates here.

Music! We are very lucky to have Mrs Fourie teach the Pukeko Team about music. She will be working with Room 6 on Thursday morning. During this time I will get the opportunity to work with the students 1-1 and get some assessments completed.
